Norway : PhD research fellowship in Design of Information Systems


Position as PhD Research fellow available at Department of Informatics, Design of Information Systems.
The fellowship is for a period of up to 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work. Starting date no later than 1.10.2012.
Job/ project description:
The research fellowship will be part of a long-term research agenda in the research group Design of Information Systems, focusing on design and use of IT in the home. In the Summer of 2012 the group will start collaborating with Oslo Municipality on evaluating and further developing new smart homes for elderly people at Kampen Omsorg+ apartments. The research fellow will be central in this collaboration, contributing to ethnographic studies of the use context as well as experimenting with design of new IT solutions that enhance the smart home environment. This participatory design research will be carried out in close collaboration with employees and inhabitants in the Omsorg+ apartments.
We are looking for a research fellow with a strong informatics basis, who is able to participate in all parts of the participatory design process, including ethnographic studies and technical design experiments in a real use context. We give particular weight to solid knowledge about new interaction forms, like haptic and tangible interaction, sound, and interaction with mobile devices.
Requirements
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science (Informatics). Candidates without a Master’s degree have until 30 June, 2012 to complete the final exam.
The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
The fellowship requires admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The application to the PhD programme must be submitted to the department no later than two months after taking up the position.
Salary:
Position code 1017, pay grade: 48 - 56 (NOK 391 100 – 448 100 per year)
