Norway : Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the University og Agder, Faculty of Humanities and Education


At the University of Agder, Faculty of Humanities and Education, invites applications for a three-year full-time postdoctoral position at the Department of Religion, Philosophy and History located on the Kristiansand campus from 1 August 2012. The starting date is negotiable.
The Department of Religion, Philosophy and History has 42 academic staff members and approximately 500 students enrolled in study programmes in religion, philosophy and history.
The postdoctoral position is a part of a four-year NFR/UiA-sponsored project entitled, “Biblical’ Texts Older than the Bible” (this project outline may be obtained by contacting arstein.justnes@uia.no). Examples of relevant topic areas for the project include the interplay between so-called ”authoritative” writing, other texts and social contexts in the time of the second temple, ”Biblical” diversity in the time of the second temple (various publications and reworked ”scripture”), or use of new/material philology in text publications regarding and understanding of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Other desiderata in Qumran research with relevance for the project will also be considered.
The appointee is expected to enter into binding cooperation with the research team, and will actively contribute to strengthening the faculty research environment. He/she will among other things be responsible for leading the Forum on Holy Scriptures (which gathers bi-weekly) and receive assignments associated with publishing and editing during the project period.
The appointee must have a doctoral degree or its equivalent in relevant subject areas (preferably the Dead Sea Scrolls or the Old Testament), and it is desirable that applicants have completed their disputation within the past five years. Relevant applicants must have received approval for their doctoral thesis within the application deadline.
Applicants must submit a project description in English (a maximum of 8 pages including literature list).
The position requires that the appointee be able to work in a goal-oriented, structured, focused and independent manner. During the evaluation process, consideration will be given to applicants’ results pertaining to their doctoral work, examination results as well as other published research and development works. Relevant practice, personal suitability and collaborative abilities will be considered. The project outlines and its relevance in relation to the project will also be considered.
The working language is English, including Scandinavian languages. A good knowledge of oral and written English is required.

Appointment is made by the University of Agder’s Appointments Committee for Teaching and Research Positions. The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1352 Post-doctor, salary grade 57-64. A compulsory pension contribution (2%) to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay in accordance with current statutory provisions.
