A post-doctoral position is available in our group to study (i) the fungal pathogen Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici, causal agent of the wheat powdery mildew and (ii) its interaction with the wheat host. The work is part of an ongoing research project which aims at the identification, cloning and molecular functional analysis of the avirulence gene(s) AvrPm3 determining the recognition by the different alleles of the wheat Pm3 resistance gene. The results will help to understand the mechanisms of recognition and induction of defence responses, and the evolutionary characterization of the AvrPm3 / Pm3 interaction. Approaches will include, but are not limited to: phytopathology, genetics, genomics,
transcriptomics, bioinformatics and molecular biology.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a solid background in molecular biology and genetics. Evidence for successful work in form of publications is required and good knowledge of plant-microbe interactions is an asset. The successful candidate will be able to work in a team, to establish collaborations with other groups, and will supervise MSc and/or PhD students. He / She must be able to communicate efficiently in English. The salary is according to the norms of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
The position is open immediately, but the start date is flexible. Screening of applications will start April 1 st and candidates must be available for an interview. Initially, the position is for two years. The Institute of Plant Biology is part of the University of Zurich, hosting internationally well-ranked groups working on diverse disciplines of plant sciences. The institute, located in the botanical garden, has excellent research facilities and provides an interactive and stimulating scientific environment.
Please send your application and CV, detailing your research motivation and interests and relevant experimental experience, as well as a publication list to:
