The new international phD program in Montpellier accepts applications for 10 phD positions, among which one in systems biology (3D organisation of the fruit-fly genome).
INTERNATIONAL PHD PROGRAM EPIGENMED, Montpellier, France
The International EpiGenMed PhD program of the University of Montpellier is currently accepting applications for ten 3-year Ph.D. positions to be started on October 1, 2012.
The Labex (Laboratory of Excellence) EpiGenMed is a Health Sciences collaborative research program at the University of Montpellier that is financed by the Excellence Initiative of the French Ministry of Research and that involves the leading research laboratories of the area. Five major axes of research involving 49 top-level research groups are supported by this initiative:
-Genomics and Epigenetics
-Cell cycle and Development
-Molecular Basis of Infectious Diseases
-Neuroscience and Cell Signaling
-Biophysics and Systems Biology
Candidates must have achieved academic excellence and be highly motivated to pursue a PhD project in one of the above research areas. They should have obtained a Masters 2 level diploma or equivalent by July 2012.

Successful candidates will be enrolled at the Graduate School of Health Sciences of Montpellier University (CBS2) (http://www.adum.fr/as/ed/cbs2/page.pl). The University of Montpellier (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Université_de_Montpellier) is a major interdisciplinary campus (60,000 students) in the South of France, with state-of-the-art facilities for biomedical research. It is one of the oldest Universities in the world (1160 ad) and it has the oldest active Medical School in the western world.
Applications should be uploaded directly to the EpiGenMed website by March 30, 2012 at the latest. The 2 reference letters for each candidate should be uploaded directly to the EpiGenMed website by March 30,2012.
The EpiGenMed selection committee will shortlist 20 candidates who will receive an invitation to visit the campus (2-day visit). The travel and lodging costs will be covered by EpiGenMed. Applicants from outside the European Union might be interviewed by video conference. After the selection process, each student who enters the program (10 total) will establish a list of his/her 3 first choices for advisor among the offered subjects/teams (see EpiGenMed website). The selection committee will assign the student taking into account these priorities, as well as the wishes of the team leaders.
