glad to introduce you to this distinctive Master of Science in
International Banking and Finance (MIBF) Programme, hosted by the
Economics Department of Lingnan University. According to a recent study
published in the China Economic Review, Lingnan University is
ranked fifth among all economic research institutions in China (including Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau) in the period 2005 - 2009 based on the publications in top 50 economics journals. The overriding aim of this program is to provide a broad-based set of problem-solving
skills especially suited for those who are holding or anticipating positions as managers, financial analysts or economists in the banking and finance industry, big multinational corporations and government or international organizations.

2) Focus and Aims
The overriding aim of this program is to provide a broad-based set of problem-solving skills especially suited for those who are holding or anticipating positions as managers, financial analysts or economists in the banking and finance industry, big multinational corporations
and government or international organizations. More specifically, we strive to achieve the following objectives:
• to provide students with the latest theoretical and empirical knowledge in the field of international banking and finance;
• to prepare students for rapidly changing world, with updated knowledge about the economic and technological environment, fully
aware of their impact on modern day banking and finance;
• to equip students with the necessary analytical and quantitative
skills for working in the field of international banking and finance
or other related areas;
• to extend students'working knowledge of international banking and
finance in Hong Kong and the Asian-Pacific region.
3) Mode and Duration
This is a full-time, credit-based postgraduate programme. All courses
in the programme carry 3 credits. Students have to obtain minimum of
30 credits or 10 courses, which consists of 4 cluster courses (12
credits) and 6 elective courses (18 credits) in order to graduate. The
normal duration for the programme is one year full-time. Teaching
normally starts in late August and ends in May. The maximum period is
two years full-time. Classes will normally be held Monday to Friday on
Lingnan's Tuen Mun Campus.
4) Tuition Fee
The tuition fee for the academic year 2013-14 is HK$120,000 for local
student and HK$138,000 for non-local student.
5) Scholarships and Financial Aids
Maximum 3 full scholarships (including the full tuition fee of
HK$120,000 for local student, or HK$138,000 for non-local student,
plus a stipend of HK$40,000) will be offered each year for the best
candidates. Another 5-10 scholarships (amount between HK$5,000 -
HK$138,000) will be offered each year for excellent candidates. All
students admitted to the programme will be automatically qualified for
the award of scholarships. In addition, there will be a number of
part-time research assistantships available in the Department every
year. The Programme is eligible for the support of the Continuing
Education Fund (CEF) for Hong Kong students.
6) Application Period
For the current year intake, application starts from 1st November 2012
and closes on 31st March 2013. Late application may be considered on
case by case basis.
7) The Entry Requirements
A recognized good first degree in a relevant field OR a recognized
first degree plus relevant working experience. An applicant should
normally have a score at internationally recognized English tests with
scores equivalent to TOEFL score of 575 (paper-based test) or 90
(internet-based test) or IELTS 6.5 or above. Applicant may be invited
to sit-in an interview for assessment of their English language
ability.
8) Career Prospects
The majority of our graduates have landed jobs in large commercial
banks, local and foreign investment firms, big-four audit firm,
government departments and so on. Those graduates who decided to
continue their studies are now studying for PhD or MPhil at top
oversea and Hong Kong Universities.
