The Chinese University of Hong Kong offers the Global Scholarship
Programme to support junior faculty and PhD students of CUHK to
undertake short-term research visits at a selected group of leading
research institutions. It also supports PhD students from these
institutions to undertake short-term research attachments at CUHK. 15th
March 2013 is the deadline for CUHK faculty and Visiting PhD Students
while 6th March 2013 for CUHK PhD Students. Only one award will be made
to each applicant. Applicants will be notified of the results by May
2013.
Study Subject(s): Priority will normally be
given to research that is within the Five Focused Areas i.e. Biomedical
Sciences; Chinese Studies; Economics and Finance; Geoinformation and
Earth Sciences; and Information Sciences.

Eligibility:
For CUHK Faculty: Applicants must hold full-time appointment at CUHK
and should be at Assistant or Associate Professor rank substantiated
within the last 3 years or on a type of contract [Type K1 (SX)] that may
lead to substantive appointment in the course of employment at CUHK.
For CUHK PhD Students: -Applicants must be registered full-time PhD students at CUHK at the time of application and during the research visit. Priority will be given to applicants who will be in their 3rd or 4th year of study when they undertake the visit.
-Applicants should possess a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or above.
For Visiting PhD Students: Applicants must be registered full-time PhD students at one of the institutions listed in the Programme Guidelines.

Scholarship Description: The Global Scholarship Programme for Research Excellence was launched in 2007 with a generous funding
provided by CNOOC. The Programme is designed to enhance research
excellence at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) through
building and strengthening the University’s ties with leading research
universities and institutes around the world and to increase the
visibility of CUHK as a world-class research university through student
and staff mobility.

For CUHK PhD Students: The research visit shall last for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months. It shall be carried out and completed between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014, and prior to the submission of final thesis.
For Visiting PhD Students: The research visit shall last for at least one month. It shall be carried out and completed between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014.

What does it cover? For CUHK Faculty: Each award is valued at HK$20,000 for a 4-week activity or HK$30,000 for a 6-week (or longer) activity.
For CUHK PhD Students: The value of the award will vary based on the duration and destination of visit. Normally the amount will range from HK$15,000 to HK$50,000.
For Visiting PhD Students: Award holders will receive free on-campus housing during their visit.
