Finland : Doctoral Student Toxicology

The University of Helsinki is among the leading multidisciplinary research universities in the world. In addition to its 11 faculties, the University includes several independent institutes, some of which are jointly operated with other universities. Some 36,600 students are currently pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Helsinki.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Helsinki is the only institute in Finland that educates veterinarians. The basic six-year programme in veterinary medicine leads to a Bachelor and a Licentiate degree. The training programmes of the Faculty have been approved according to the European EAEVE/FVE system of evaluating veterinary training. The research work of the Faculty has been ranked at a high international level, and the Faculty has modern facilities and equipment. About 400 undergraduate students, 90 postgraduate students and 120 other students are pursuing specialist veterinary degrees in the Faculty. Department of Food Hygiene and Environmental Health,The Faculty of Veterinary Medicineof the University of Helsinki invites applications for a   DOCTORAL STUDENT   in toxicology for the period of 1.3.2013–31.8.2016.

The position is open in a research group working on the physiological and toxicological aspects of the AH receptor as well as on the molecular mechanisms of dioxin toxicity.   We are looking for an applicant with a M.Sc. degree in a scientific discipline relevant to the research aims. The applicant should be familiar with basic techniques in molecular biology and biochemistry; previous experience in working with laboratory animals and/or cultured cells is an asset. He/she should also have a strong drive to solve scientific problems, be eager to learn new methods and adapt readily in group working while simultaneously showing initiative.   The salary will be based on levels 2–4 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system applied in Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
