This new, comprehensive
2+4 MRes/PhD research programme will provide exceptionally high quality
training in advanced Economics, giving candidates outstanding
opportunities to understand, appreciate, and contribute to frontier
research.
After a two-year taught MRes programme, all candidates obtaining excellent results will proceed to the four-year PhD programme.
Several fully funded scholarships will be available for the best candidates.
Programme and admission criteria
The programme is based on advanced
courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics in the first
year of the MRes, with further two optional courses and an MRes
dissertation in the second year. The structure and progression rules
will provide the Department, as well as the students themselves, with a
greater degree of evidence of candidates’ suitability to progress on
to a doctoral programme. The 4-year PhD programme will allow
participants to develop as researchers and to make their own mark not
only in academia, but also in the public and private sectors, in all
fields where excellent research and analysis skills are required.
The programme is based on a two-year
taught MRes programme, with three core advanced modules in Macro, Micro
and Econometrics (40 CATS each), two optional courses (30 CATS each)
and an MRes dissertation (20,000 words – 30 CATS). The students who
will achieve the required standards in all these elements will be
admitted to the four-year PhD programme and will be able to start their
research activities.
