National Food Institute
(DTU Food) is a research institute at the Technical University of
Denmark. The institute has approx. 365 employees organized in six
divisions: Food Chemistry, Industrial Food Research, Nutrition, Food
Microbiology, Epidemiology & Microbial Genomics, and Toxicology
& Risk Assessment. DTU-Food focuses on public health in relation to
human nutrition, food safety, environment and health. Activities are
centered on food products throughout the entire food chain, from
primary agricultural production and industrial processing to
preparation in the consumer's home and evaluating the impact on human
health. The research activities include studying scientifically based
risk assessments and advisory services to Danish and international
authorities and industry. The institute is part of the national food
safety contingency plan and is the national reference laboratory for
chemical and microbial food safety.
SMARTDETECT - A portable system for rapid nucleic acid based detection of pathogens
SMARTDETECT is a new project funded by the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation. In this project three industrial partners and DTU are involved. The project’s vision is to develop a Lab-on-a-Chip system that 1) has a capacity to simultaneously test for up to 30 markers of different pathogenic microorganisms in one test; 2) will be able to handle the samples directly without a sample preparation step; 3) could be used directly as on-site testing and thereby save time by eliminating submission of the samples to central testing laboratories; and 4) The LOC system will be sufficiently robust to be produced industrially.
Laboratory of Applied Micro and Nanotechnology (LAMINATE) at the Diagnostic Engineering group, Division of Food Microbiology, DTU-Food is looking for a PhD candidate in the field of applied micro and nanotechnology in life sciences. The PhD project will focus on the development of new real-time detection approaches, for example, direct PCR and Solid phase PCR that are suitable for on line detection.
The starting date of the position is May 1st 2013 and the duration of the position is 3 years.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a master's degree (or equivalent) in engineering, biochemistry, bio-micro-nanotechnology, biotechnology or medical technology.
Relevant qualifications include:
