UK : Research Associate Position in Experimental Mineral Phyiscs

NERC offers postdoctoral research associate position at the departments of Earth Sciences and Chemistry in UCL. The position is offered in the field of Experimental Mineral Phyiscs. The post is funded for the period of three years with £32,375 – £39,132 per annum salary. Applicants applying for the position will have a PhD, or thesis submitted and subject to examination, in the earth sciences, phyiscs or a related physical science.  The position is for the experimental component of the project and is funded by NERC.
Study Subject(s): The position is offered in the field of  Experimental Mineral Phyiscs at the departments of Earth Sciences and Chemistry in UCL. The project aims to determine the water content of the Earth’s mantle through concurrent electrical conductivity and infra-red absorption spectroscopy measurements of silicate minerals at high pressures and temperatures in the diamond anvil cell.  The observed dependence of electricla conductivity on water content will be used in inversions of the observed geomagnetic response function to constrain water content in the upper mantle and transition zone.
Course Level: This position is available for pursuing postdoctoral research programme.
Scholarship Provider: NERC
Scholarship can be taken at:  UK
Eligibility: -Applicants will have a PhD, or thesis submitted and subject to examination, in the Earth sciences, phyiscs or a related physical science.  An independent research reputation with high quality publications and a strong background in diamond-anvil cell experimentation are essential.
