Sweden : PhD. scholarship in Robotics

Applications are invited for a 3-year Ph.D. scholarship in Robotics at The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark in Odense, available from 1 March, 2013 or soon thereafter.
In the European project ACAT, a range of nontrivial industrial processes are studied. For each process, a set of components (tools, sensors etc.) are available. To select the most appropriate components and most optimal control, learning based on massive simulations using a realistic simulation tool is potentially a superior alternative to traditional experimental trial and error techniques. It is the purpose of this Ph.D. project to study the applicability of simulations as this alternative, and if and how simulations can be used to facilitate the understanding of the processes at hand. A number of real robot experiments implementing a set of simulated processes will be carried out by the applicant as the experimental validation.

Applicants for the scholarship must have a Master’s degree in robot systems engineering, or a related field and must have skills within programming advanced robotic systems, mathematical modeling and C++.
