Germany : PhD Student Positions: Towards a Science of Assessment-Making at MCC

ASP at the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) Berlin invites application for doctoral studentship in Germany. Candidate must hold an excellent Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in political sciences, economics as well as environmental sciences and policy. The candidate must have a good command of written and spoken English. The candidate must be highly motivated, open-minded and willing to work as a team player. Salary should be given in according to the German TV-L (E13, 50 % position) for three years. Send complete application via email before 28th February, 2013.

Eligibility: -The successful candidate has a strong interest in interdisciplinary research and will hold an excellent Master’s Degree (or equivalent).
-The successful candidate is able to demonstrate the potential for excellence in research in the above-mentioned research areas.
-She or he has a good command of written and spoken English, is highly motivated, open-minded and willing to work as a team player in an interdisciplinary context.
-Suitable candidates ideally have some background in political sciences, economics as well as environmental sciences and policy.
-Experience in science-policy interaction and related research is an asset.

Scholarship Description: We consider assessment-making as a genuine scientific method. Assessments face serious challenges in providing reliable, well-communicated, and policy-neutral but policy-relevant aggregation of scientific knowledge—and in achieving sufficient and desirable impact on policies. The MCC Working Group “Assessments and Scientific Policy Advice” (ASP) therefore analyzes previous assessment processes and aims at contributing to the theory of the science-policy interface in order to enhance future scientific assessments.
