University's School of Computing and Communications has six Doctoral
Scholarships available for exceptional UK, EU, and overseas graduates.
We are keen to attract candidates to join our exciting team of
researchers across a range of disciplines.
Awards will be made on the basis of academic excellence and potential for future achievement as demonstrated by your application and supporting references. The Scholarships provide support for PhD studies for a duration of 3 to 3.5 years and include a waiver of tuition fees
(partial fee waiver for overseas students), a student maintenance grant and a training bursary.
Candidates are strongly encouraged to contact relevant academics before applying to discuss interests and potential topics. The following staff are actively seeking students in the described areas:
Dr. Jason Alexander (j.alexander@lancaster.ac.uk): deformable and actuated displays, novel input and output techniques, mobile HCI, understanding real-world interactions.
Dr. Keith Cheverst (k.cheverst@lancaster.ac.uk): situated displays, user centered design, mobile HCI, technology support for wayfinding/navigation, technology support for community.
Prof. Hans Gellersen (h.gellersen@lancaster.ac.uk): spontaneous interaction with pervasive devices, eye tracking and eye-computer interfaces, sensors and devices for ubiquitous computing.
Dr. Mike Hazas (m.hazas@lancaster.ac.uk): energy and technology at home; practice-oriented understandings of everyday life and sustainability.
Dr. Matthew Rowe (m.rowe@lancaster.ac.uk): social network evolution, recommender systems, digital identity, attention economics.
Prof. Jon Whittle (j.n.whittle@lancaster.ac.uk): social computing, understanding behaviour in online social networks, community-university
co-design of digital technology, human aspects of software engineering.
