Germany : Doctoral position in theoretical statistical physics

The Institute of Theoretical Physics IV of the University of Stuttgart and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems announce a

Doctoral position in theoretical statistical physics

to be filled immediately. The salary will be according to TV-L E13, with 2/3 of the regular working hours. The candidate will be part of an Emmy Noether Research Group granted by the German Research Foundation (DFG). We are building a team of highly motivated and strong researchers, and are looking for a candidate who is willing to contribute her/his strength and skills to the success of the team.

The candidate will be involved in investigation of fundamental as well as experimentally relevant properties of fluctuational electrodynamics, as is for example of importance for the quantum Casimir-effect. Recently, there has been increased interest in systems out of equilibrium − where the objects are e.g. held at different temperatures − and the connected phenomenon of radiative heat transfer. Fruitful international collaborations with both experimental and theoretical groups exist. Please contact us for details.

Candidates are expected to hold a Masters degree in physics;
experience in statistical physics or quantum field theory would be advantageous. Application documents (English or German) should include CV, cover letter, and contact details of two academic referees and should be sent to Dr. Matthias Krueger, preferably by email.
