Taiwan : International Higher Education Scholarship Program

Brief description:
TaiwanICDF’s International Higher Education Scholarship Program aims to assist partner developing countries to achieve sustainable development through education. The TaiwanICDF provides scholarships for higher education and has developed undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. programs in cooperation with renowned partner universities in Taiwan.
Host Institution(s):
The TaiwanICDF has established the Taiwan International Cooperation Alliance (TICA) with its partner universities, setting up an operational platform under this TICA framework to manage and improve the scholarship program. The programs of study supported include: Science and Technology, Engineering, Public Health and Medicine, Sustainable Agriculture Development, Humanities and Social Sciences, Private Sector Development.
Target group:
Nationals of a country on the list of countries eligible for TaiwanICDF Scholarship coming form the region of Asia Pacific,West Asia, Africa, Caribbean, Central America, South America, and Europe.
Scholarship value/inclusions:
The TaiwanICDF provides each scholarship recipient with a full scholarship, including return airfare, housing, tuition and credit fees, insurance, textbook costs and a monthly allowance.  See the details of scholarship benefits.
Eligibility:
•  Be a citizen of List of Countries Eligible for TaiwanICDF Scholarship, and satisfy any specific criteria established by his or her country and/or government of citizenship.
•  Neither be a national of the Republic of China (Taiwan) nor an overseas compatriot student.
•  Satisfy the admission requirements of the partner university to which he or she has applied to study under a TaiwanICDF scholarship.
•  Be able to satisfy all requirements for a Resident Visa (Code: FS) set by the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) set by the Ministry of the Interior, of the ROC (Taiwan) government (this means that the TaiwanICDF has the right to revoke a scholarship offered if an applicant cannot satisfy the visa requirements).
•  Upon accepting a TaiwanICDF scholarship, not hold any other ROC(Taiwan) government-sponsored scholarship (such as the TaiwanScholarship) in the same academic year in which the TaiwanICDF scholarship would be due to commence.
•  Not be applying for a further TaiwanICDF scholarship in unbroken succession — applicants who have already held a TaiwanICDF scholarship must have returned to their home country for more than one year before re-applying (note: to apply for a 2013 scholarship, an applicant must have graduated and returned to his or her home country before July 31, 2012).
•  Have never had any scholarship revoked by any ROC (Taiwan)government agency or related institution, nor been expelled from any Taiwanese university.

The annual application period runs, in principle, from 1 January  to 15 March (for 2013 Scholarship programs, the application period runs from 4 January to 15 March 2013)

Taiwan : PhD and Post­doc­toral Researchers of V4 Coun­tries

National Science Council (NSC) of Taiwan and International Visegrad Fund (IVF) jointly funded Taiwan Scholarships for the researchers of Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland or Slovakia (V4 countries). The scholarship is offered for PhD and postdoctoral study or research at selected higher edu­ca­tion institution accred­ited by the gov­ern­ment of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The scholarship provides €750/month for PhD level or €800 one-time travel grant and €1,000/month for post doc level and €800 one-time travel grant for both. The application deadline is February 15, 2013.
Study Subject(s): Scholarship is provided in the areas of Nanotechnology, Electrotechnical industry, Biotechnology, Information technology (IT), Tourism, Social sci­ences and humanities.

Eligibility: Prospective appli­cants must be cit­i­zens of one of the V4 coun­tries (CZ, HU, PL, SK) and have very good knowl­edge of English or Chinese both spo­ken and writ­ten. The fol­low­ing two types of scholarships are recognized:
-PhD stud­ies: schol­ars must have fin­ished MA or equiv­a­lent and must be enrolled in the first 4 years of full-time PhD stud­ies in a V4 country
-Postdoctoral research: schol­ars must hold a PhD degree and con­duct full-time research activ­ity in V4 countries.
Scholarship Open for International Students: The citizens of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland or Slovakia can apply for this scholarship.
Scholarship Description: The International Visegrad Fund—National Science Council, Taiwan Scholarship Program is a program oper­ated jointly by the Fund and the National Science Council (NSC), Taiwan. The aim of the pro­gram is to facil­i­tate aca­d­e­mic exchanges by pro­vid­ing sup­port to PhD can­di­dates and post­doc­toral researchers from the V4 coun­tries who intend to study or con­duct research in Taiwan. Reciprocal part of the pro­gram sup­port­ing mobil­ity of Taiwanese researchers to the V4 region is oper­ated by the NSC.
Duration of award(s): 10 months (2 semes­ters); pos­si­bil­ity to re-apply once (i.e., max. length of sup­port is 20 months).
What does it cover? €750/month for PhD level+ €800 one-time travel grant and €1,000/month for post doc level + €800 one-time travel grant.
How to Apply: Applicants should apply on-line. Annexes to the appli­ca­tion form (all annexes must be submitted in English—orig­i­nally issued or cer­ti­fied translated):
-copy of cer­ti­fied trans­la­tion of MA or last obtained diploma
-ver­i­fied con­fir­ma­tion of enroll­ment in PhD pro­gram issued by university/institution (on let­ter­head paper, stamped and signed by uni­ver­sity authority)
-let­ter of accep­tance or equiv­a­lent doc­u­ment form the host university/institution no older than 3 months when sub­mit­ting the application
-work­ing plan accepted by host university/institution no  older than 3 months when sub­mit­ting the application
-two let­ters of rec­om­men­da­tion (one from the super­vi­sor or head of research group).

Taiwan : Academia Sinica TIGP International PhD Program

Academia Sinica offers the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) for International students. It provides inter-disciplinary PhD Programs in nine fields, i.e. Chemical Biology and Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Science and Technology, Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences, Bioinformatics, Molecular and Cell Biology, Nano Science and Technology, Molecular Medicine, Earth System Science and Biodiversity. The fellowship covers a monthly stipend of NT$32,000 (around USD 1050) for the first year and extended for two more years for students who perform well academically. The application closing date is March 31, 2013.

Scholarship Description: TIGP offers a rigorous, interdisciplinary education at an affordable price. The payments of tuition fees are due upon registration every semester. The amount of tuition will be varying from partner universities’ standard. Please contact each program you would like to study. On arriving at Academia Sinica, students will also face reasonable living and housing costs. To apply for admission, there is no set requirement for research experience. In some cases, however, demonstrated research experience (e.g., in publications or other supporting documentation) may be an acceptable substitute for GRE exam scores and, generally, may serve to strengthen a candidate’s application profile.
